Support Jamie's Dad's Recovery Journey

Hello, my name is Jamie Jackson and I’m trying to provide a quality life for my dad. I’ve had my dad for about a year and a half now as he cannot take care of himself. He had a major stroke 20 years ago that left him without speech and the use of his right side. Still, he prevailed. Now, 20 years later, we are facing complications that I did not foresee. I am a mother of 3 young boys and have not been able to work since February of 2024 because my father became medically fragile. I am looking to move into a house where I can take care of my dad moving forward.
Back story: In June of 2024 my dad was having som stomach pain and didn’t look great. I took him to the hospital to find out he had blood clots in his stomach that traveled. This caused another stroke and occlusion to the vessels in his stomach. I pleaded with the hospital to run a few more test before discharging him and they said he would be fine. Within 48 hours of “he’ll be fine” my dad landed back in the ER bleeding out due to the blood clots causing ruptures AND occlusions in his stomach leading to a few surgeries and finally an ostomy bag. He had death to his colon and some of his intestines. The surgeon told us this could be reversed but some months down the line. We stuck it out, I brought my dad home and we added this to his care. It was not easy but we managed! In December of last year, he WALKED to my room to tell me his legs were hurting. I gave him some Tylenol and rubbed his legs in hopes of this helping and we all went to bed. He woke up the next morning and came to me in his wheelchair saying they were hurting too bad and he wanted to be seen. We headed out to the hospital. What started as leg pain lead to a few bruises on both legs. He only had so much feeling in his right leg but complete feeling in the left. They did a few test and sent him off to a rehab for therapy. Here’s where I’ll make a long story short. His body started developing clots and declining. He’s had 11 surgeries in 4 months to try and save his legs. He had an amputation of the right leg in January and we thought we were in the clear so he was sent to do rehab. Well unfortunately, with the lack of care for his ostomy, it would get into his wound site which causes him to go septic so back to the hospital we went. He underwent a few more surgeries to clean out the wound, to remove a muscle from one part of the body to place in the wound and so forth. It was scary and a big mess. Again, we thought it was going to be smooth sailing. Well today, May 1st 2025, he’s headed for an amputation of the left leg because it just could not heal from when the clots cut off circulation and caused death to his lower leg. This leaves us with the use of just his left arm. I KNOW this is going to be a ride for us but with God and support, him and I will make it. I am looking to move into a new home with more handicapped accessible features. I want my dad to come home! He has not been home in 5 months and has only declined being in facilities. AHCCCS has only approved 13 hours of caregiving which is unbelievable and just not livable. If I can raise this money to get into a better place to care for him, I can take care of the rest. I’ve had long days and even longer night stressing about these things so now I’m asking for help. Any help. I wish I could add more pictures for you guys to see the journey and I will figure out how! But for now, whatever you see fit is a blessing. I appreciate anything. Donations, prayers and resources.

I have skipped a few details just to keep some of his life to himself as this is already hard enough. To watch my dad go through this is literally heart breaking and I wouldn’t wish this on anyone. God gave him to me during his hardest times because he knew I could do it!

I meant to add, I am looking to use these donations to get everything I need to care for him including a handicap place to reside. We need a high back wheelchair, a hoyer lift, swivel and slide shower chair, foley bags, a new hospital like bed, eventually a motorized wheelchair, transfer boards, pressure cushions to lessen likely hood of bed sores, and a plethora of other things. After I meet with his therapy team, I can update all of their recommendations.
