Hello everyone, I’m reaching out to you because Jamie Banks needs our help and support while she undergoes chemo treatments and surgery to fight cervical cancer.
About 8 months ago, Jamie noticed that her energy levels were low after starting her monthly cycle. Not thinking much of it she continued to work as a chemistry teacher and stay active, but when the bleeding continued for several months unceasingly she scheduled an appointment with her OBGYN. Her OBGYN ran tests and discovered that she had a serious pre-cancer condition that called for immediate surgery. Two blood transfusions later they finalized that she would have to have a hysterectomy. While she struggled with the news because she doesn’t have children of her own, she understood the severity of her situation and on Oct 2, 2018 she underwent surgery to remove her uterus.
During the surgery they discovered a 5cm tumor which was missed by all scans and tests run prior to her surgery. The tumor was sent for testing and the results were that she had stage 3 endometrial cancer also known as cervical cancer. As a result doctors have stated that she must now undergo another surgery to remove her ovaries and start chemotherapy. She continues to stay positive during this time and always remembers that GOD is ABLE. Every day she shows me that life is so precious and is worth living the best way we can!
Most of you know Jamie because of her generosity and kind heart. She is extremely creative and crafty and is always willing to bring that creative energy to support her friends and family in their personal endeavors (I.E. weddings, baby showers, holiday parties etc.) Here’s our opportunity to support her in her time of need. Because Jamie started a new teaching job at the time of her diagnosis, she didn’t qualify for FMLA and the school was unwilling to hold her position while she underwent treatment. She is currently waiting for a response about her application for Medicaid for breast and cervical cancer. Getting approved for this will cover her surgery and chemo treatments at Parkland. Still, she needs help with monthly bills, transportation to and from the hospital after treatments, and medication costs. I’m working to try and raise at least 10k to support her with all her additional expenses. Please, I’m asking everyone to support in any way they can. A little does go a very long way to support a great cause for our dear friend and sister Jamie.
