Support James's Journey Through Spinal Cord Surgery

My name is Megan Dorsey and I am a friend of the Tumulty family. I have had many individuals reach out to me to ask how they can support the family during this time.

For those that do not know, at 3 weeks old, they found out that their son James had sepsis, and they nearly lost him. He was taken from his current NICU and was rushed to Johns Hopkins. The infection had taken over his entire little body, and the lack of oxygen left him with Spastic Diplegia Cerebral Palsy.

It has been an incredibly difficult journey for James during his short 4 years. He's been through so very much and come so far- showing true strength and resilience.

James is now facing the reality that he needs to have a spinal cord surgery, Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR). This is an intense surgery with an incredibly grueling recovery. He's expected to be in the hospital for 9 weeks post-surgery, and his days will be jam packed with therapies. Once released from the hospital, the rough terrain isn't over for him. He will have 6-12 months of an intense therapy routine.

The travel for mom (Connie Tumulty) between hospital and home, the separation of the family unit, and mom having to take off from work for an extended period of time will be an extremely challenging time for their family.

His siblings allow their entire lives to revolve around the needs of their brother. They are the ones who include him in everything, make sure he's taken care of, and will stop at nothing to protect him. They are having a hard time knowing they won't be able to spend time with James for an extended period of time.

On top of the stress of the surgery and separation of their family, they are currently fighting for James to receive state funded disability services.

The money that is donated will be used for gas, parking, medical bills, and any equipment needed for James when he comes home.

Connie and John would give the shirt off their backs to help others, and I am hoping we are able to support them and their family in this time of need.
