Support James's Battle with Cancer and Kidney Disease
Donation protected
Hi. My name is Emily Shockey and I am a friend of James. Another friend of James asked for help setting up a GoFundMe on his behalf.
Our friend James has faced many challenges throughout his life, but in recent years, his greatest hardships have come from ongoing medical issues and the expenses that follow. In addition to living with stage 3 kidney disease, James has been battling prostate cancer and recently completed 28 days of radiation treatment. Unfortunately, he’s now dealing with side effects and complications from the radiation, resulting in frequent visits to doctors and hospitals. He found out this week that he may need to have his bladder removed if his test results confirm bladder cancer.
A recent procedure meant to improve one of his conditions was unsuccessful and left him feeling worse than before. James is now beginning physical and occupational therapy to manage his conditions and maintain his health. He faces a long road ahead, with multiple chronic illnesses that require consistent, long-term care. Despite everything, James rarely asks for help. He’s been pushing forward for a long time on his own. But the truth is—he’s exhausted, he’s isolated, and he can’t do this alone. He needs a village.
He’s currently dealing with an unknown number of medical copays and is struggling to meet basic needs, such as keeping his utilities on, transportation to weekly medical appointments, food, hygiene products, etc. While he does have Medicaid and Medicare, he has currently exhausted his coverage offered and is now relying on us.
Please consider making any size donation to help James. He has helped hundreds, probably thousands, over the years and he needs us now. If you'd prefer to send donations to James's Venmo account, you can do so here: @James-BrewerJr
If you are unable to help monetarily, please consider sharing his GoFundMe link. Additionally, if you live in the area and know James personally, please consider helping with transportation and random errands.
