James Wilson was diagnosed with urothelial cancer in January of 2024. He has a tumor wrapped around his left ureter, left kidney, left psoas muscle and two veins near the kidney. He has completed 9 rounds of chemo and 3 rounds of radiation to shrink the tumor, which has been mildly successful. Side effects of the chemo and radiation have caused nerve damage to his feet and left thigh, causing severe pain, and making it difficult to walk. James uses a walker to get around his house and for short walks, but needs a wheelchair for longer trips. James has been unable to return to work during this process, but with the help of his co-workers has managed to cover all expenses not paid for by his company health insurance, including two trips to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, up until this month. James has now exhausted his savings, is currently unable to work, but has been approved for Medicaid, with disability pending. Mayo in Rochester will not accept Montana Medicaid, and his Cancer Center team has reached out to UC Denver, Huntsman in SLC, and MD Anderson in Houston to find a treatment/surgical path forward. James lost his wife to complications of diabetes in 2019 while they were living in Grand Junction, CO. He moved back to Montana to be near friends, and was just getting back to a normal flow of life when this cancer diagnosis was handed to him. All through the last 18 months, his secure belief that God has a plan that we don't understand right now, has kept him moving forward with faith and a calm resolve to fight the C beast.
