On March 12th, our sweet little grandson James Andrew Schultz was diagnosed with (B-ALL) type leukemia after becoming quite ill in the last few weeks. This came on very fast and was a scary time for his mom and dad. The doctor said that this is very treatable and has a high percentage of long life after being cured. James's treatment journey will run roughly 2 years and 3 months with many weekly hospital visits and occasional weekend stays when he receives his chemotherapy. He was in Minneapolis at the hospital for at least a week for his first rounds of chemotherapy and other diagnostic procedures. There he had a port implanted under his skin on his chest so that it will be easier and less painful to administer his medications over the next two years. His journey will be long and tiresome. At this time, he is responding well to the first treatment and his lab numbers are improving. Currently they have been able to transfer his cancer care to The Mayo Clinic in Rochester. This is such a blessing to have such good care nearby, but it is an hour away from where Nate and Ariel live. Their lives have definitely changed and will now include those weekly trips to Rochester.
Nathan and Ariel are going to welcome their second son in June. At this time, we are asking on their behalf to help make this road a little easier on them financially. This burden will be long and we're not sure what the future is looking like. We know that Nathan, Ariel, and James have many people that love them and have already reached out to share that with them. For this, we are all so grateful to feel your love and prayers. Thanks to everyone for your support along with kind words. This is never something you are prepared to hear, that your child is sick.
