Support James' Post Heart Surgery Stroke Recovery
Donation protected
Hello. My name is Jennifer Taylor. I have started a GoFundMe for my brother, James Oslin. He recently became sick. For several months, he made many trips to the doctor's office and ER and had many tests done, but nothing could be found. After his feet and hand became so swollen and painful that he couldn't even walk, he went back to the ER on Monday May 19, 2025, where he was diagnosed with Mitral Valve Regurgitation, which had become infected and sent infection through his bloodstream and a blocked artery, which required open-heart surgery to replace the valve as well as a bypass for the blocked artery.
On Friday, May 23, 2025, James underwent surgery and although the surgery was successful, while still on the ventilator following surgery, he had 3 seizures. He was kept in ICU and left on the ventilator and hooked up to an EEG. On Sunday, May 25th, he was able to be taken off the ventilator and taken off of the EEG but closely monitored. That evening, James had several mini-strokes and 1 quite large one and was very confused and seems to have lost most of his peripheral vision.
Since Monday, they have still not been able to eradicate the infection fully and they have found some pneumonia in his lungs. Also, we were informed that he will have to have a pacemaker put in, which is scheduled for tomorrow, Thursday, May 29th.
He will be going to rehab for a few weeks following discharge from the hospital, but the timeline for that has been somewhat fluid due to all of the post-surgery complications. What we thought would be a normal recovery from the surgery to repair his heart has become more than we ever thought possible. That is why I am trying to raise funds to keep his rent and bills paid and for medical bills that aren't covered by insurance.
James is a server, who was unable to work for some weeks before his diagnosis and was only able to pay what he could towards his rent. Both of our parents have passed away and I'm struggling in my sudden "parental" role but I have to do what I can to help him.
Please help if you can, any amount would help us get James on his feet for when he is able to return to work and get back to normal life.
Thank you from the bottom of my ❤️.
