Hello everyone. I am Jen and I’m starting this go fund me for my husband, James Johnson. As many of you know James had a severe brain bleed/TBI on June 30th, 2024. You can see his story here https://www.caringbridge.org/site/1ec93d41-37e0-11ef-9001-2163dcce05ce.
James' injury has left him with continued cognitive and physical limitations, and he has been unable to return to work due to this. We are in the process of getting him on SSDI, but this process is taking around two years currently. Before James' injury his son was living with us and going to school in Mora. After his injury his ex took Harvey, and over the last year he has been able to see him less and less. There is no current parenting time agreement in place, and we no longer have the funds to go back to court to fight for this as our savings has been depleted just keeping up with basic living expenses and ever accumulating medical expenses. This has been adding a lot of stress on James as he struggles to adapt to this new reality. James has always been a very proud provider for our family. He always worked hard and enjoyed doing so. He would leave our home at 5am every morning and often not return until 730pm most days. Not being able to work is new territory and has been hard for him to adjust to. His ex has recently been asking him to pay for things such as braces and a phone for Harvey, knowing he has no income. I would like to help relieve some of this stress for him by raising funds to help him go back to court to fight for more time with Harvey and to help with basic living costs and to pay towards significant medical debt. For context, in less than one year James had three life flights, six surgeries, spent months in the hospital followed by weeks in inpatient therapies. Since then, he has spent many more months in outpatient therapies, until December 31, 2025 when he lost his medical insurance due to the Affordable Care Act ending. He is no longer able to attend his therapies which have been very helpful to him in his continued recovery. He will be able to return once he is found disabled either through Social Security, or through SMRT (State Medical Review Team), which will make him eligible for Medicaid.
As we go through life we often don't think about how one accident, injury, or illness can take everything we have built. We never imagined this is where we would be after being at the most financially stable point in our lives. Regardless, we are thankful to God every day that he is still here with us and the progress he has made so far is a true miracle.
Thank you to all who have supported us on this journey, continued love and prayers are always appreciated.
Much Love, Jen
