August 27th, 2024- a day that would forever change our lives. In the early hours of the day my husband, James Hicks, was taken to the hospital for what seemed to be a heart attack. It was soon discovered that he had an aortic dissection, something very serious and deadly. 9 hours of surgery led to days on a ventilator. As of 9/4 he is finally awake and talking pretty well most of the time. He suffered a few small strokes in the last week as well. Today 9/5 he started his dialysis to hopefully help clear the toxins out of his kidneys.

This has all been so much all of a sudden as I know all of our bills will soon start piling up with me juggling between working, being a mom to our 5 kids, and going back and forth to the hospital to be with James. He has a very long road ahead and it won’t be easy. Anything will help.

Update: Day 26- 9/23/24 he has finally been released from the hospital and transferred to the rehab facility. He was walking a little bit today but still a long way to go.
