The last month and a half has come as a whirlwind for my daughter's family. My son in-law's health rapidly declined at a shocking rate as he became incapacitated with baffling symptoms of limited mobility, significant weight loss, severe pain, chronic cough, and malaise. After failed treatments from his primary doctor, he was brought to the ER the day before his son's 10th birthday and admitted into the hospital. After over a week of extensive diagnostics and nuclear IV antibiotics with no improvements to his condition, he was finally diagnosed with a rare auto-immune disease called Granulomatosis with polyangiitis that among other things, attacks the lungs, kidneys, and respiratory system. After his diagnosis and a clearer plan of treatment, he was released from the hospital with a variety of oral medications to keep him stabilized. The plan was for him to receive his first immunotherapy infusion within days. After 4 days of release and a delay on receiving his treatment due to insurance hold ups, he again, rapidly declined and experienced a neurologic episode that has been attributed to his failing kidneys. He was rushed to the ER for a second time, and then transferred by ambulance to a larger facility where he has stabilized, but is currently fighting to avoid kidney failure. He has finally received his first immunotherapy treatment, and his family is trying to remain optimistic that this is the first step towards James regaining strength and having a sense of normal functionality. My daughter Coty, and James share three children together ages, 2, 4 and 10. James is a hard worker, who has enjoyed an active life running numerous 5K's and even completing the Boston Marathon in 2013.
I am reaching out to our communities to share their story for those who are able to help and contribute any assistance during this difficult time where this young family is incurring significant medical bills and experiencing a loss of income. This is a lifelong disease that requires continuous treatment and monitoring for survival. We appreciate any donations and prayers that can be offered.
My goal is to help ease some of the financial and emotional burdens that James and Coty are facing by creating this page.
