James P. Duffy Johnson: Aid in His Bladder Cancer Struggle

James “Duffy” Johnson is 62 years old. An aggressive bladder cancer has gotten the best of him, along with the side effects of the debilitating chemotherapy. Last summer spent over 12 hours in the emergency room receiving blood transfusions to counter severe anemia and neutropenia due to chemotherapy, despite compromised veins.
He has just received another round of chemotherapy that has had far fewer side effects but required traveling more than an hour away for 6 consecutive weeks. Until a replacement is made for his late, lamented Malibu he's renting cars to attend out-of-town doctor visits.

He has received assistance for some living expenses from a cancer support group in the past but they are no longer helping with his rent. He has a great work ethic and yearns to work as much as possible although it is becoming evident this is no longer an option as his job requires a fair amount of physical exertion and carrying loads. It also involves transportation, and his aforementioned Malibu has recently blown its engine.

He has applied for disability with the Social Security Administration. The approval process can take several months, during which time he needs to concentrate on his recovery and get his affairs in order in case his health takes a downturn. He is a father to three grown children.

James is in urgent need of new dentures, glasses, funds to either fix or replace his car, rent ($500/month), and ongoing living expenses. Anything you can do to help would be appreciated. He’s a good guy and deserves a chance to get back on his feet to pursue the things he loves.

Update:
9/12/24: "Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your help during this difficult time. I am forever grateful." James

11/12/24: "Hi friends. I've scheduled six (6) more chemotherapy treatments in Eugene, beginning just before Thanksgiving and continuing into 2025. The procedure is less time-consuming than an infusion and won't cause the usual side effects. I can't say I'm looking forward to it but I'm very hopeful it will be effective. As always, I am very, very grateful for the support I've received thus far from you all.

12/16/24: Update-I'm halfway through the current treatments, three more sessions to go. They're going great so far. Happy Holidays to everyone!

1/05/25: Update- Had my last chemo treatment in Eugene last week, no complications. Next up is a cystoscopy in mid-March to see how the treatment went. A heartfelt thank you and wishes for a Happy New Year to you all
