On February 6th (which just so happened to be my sisters 40th birthday), my brother in law was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer. James went in to the ER on Monday, January 27th for assumed gallbladder issues. By Wednesday the 29th, James was in surgery. He had an amazing surgeon at SGMC that removed a grapefruit sized mass from James’s colon, along with part of the colon. 8 days later, they got the news that changed everything.
James was diagnosed with colon cancer at just 40 years old. My sister and James got started right away making appointments to get ahead of this diagnosis and on February 12th, James had his first appointment at Moffitt. They have already come up with the game plan as to how James is going to kick this cancers ass (pardon my French). James will return to Moffitt on February 27th for his port placement and he will begin chemo on Tuesday, March 4th. His treatments will consist of a 48 hour drip of meds, requiring my sister and James to have to stay in Tampa for days at a time. They have a huge army of support back in Georgia and of course here in Florida as well, but this will unfortunately separate them from Presley and Amelia for days at a time, every 2 weeks for the next 3 months.
James has been placed on medical leave from the United States Air Force where he has served for 19 years. My sister will continue to work, as she can, around his treatments and appointments. The last thing they should have to worry about during these next few months, is financial burden. Any donations received will help with travel, lodging, dining and also to make up for my sister’s loss of income. Making the commute from South Georgia to south Florida and back will get slightly expensive and this will help them with the initial cost of traveling.
We (including the amazing medical team) all are very optimistic that James will come out of this, cancer free and straight back to running… (James plans to run an actual marathon after this is all over )
We understand everyone is not able to donate and we totally understand, we just ask that you continue keep James, my sister and the girls in your prayers.
We will continue to keep everyone up to date on James triumphs.
Thank you all so much!
