UPDATE on James and MaryKate Bashaw and family:
Hello again dear friends, thank you so much for supporting the Bashaw family. They have returned to their house and they are safe. They don't have access to water, like everyone else in Asheville, but the community is providing showers and laundry facilities in town. Their eldest daughter, Guinevere, who is 6 yrs old, has pneumonia. She is recovering now with the care of her family and medication.
The emotional after-effects of the hurricane are the most difficult part of recovery. The trauma of seeing the town decimated, the anxiety and grief of nurturing 2 small children without the normalcy of their former daily life, including going to school and work, and the fear and uncertainty about their future; these are all deeply unsettling and corrosive to any kind of peace and serenity. There are no answers or solutions right now. They, and we, are living in an ungrounded reality, and trying to find faith that they will be ok, more than ok, that they can thrive.
Currently the Bashaws have no income, life and work are suspended for the time being. They are in need of financial help to buy groceries and fuel. Thank you again for your willingness to help, and keep some light in your thoughts for the Bashaws, and all the others. with love and gratitude, Zoë Latham
