My name is Alexis Copeland and on Friday, my family and I decided to order DoorDash. We almost never do, but we have been struggling with our little one, the normal eight-month-old stuff. I go to place the leftover boxes into the fridge and I see a note taped on the box. It reads:
“Truly appreciate your generosity. I work to pay my wife's medical co-pays & unexpected expenses. I am 79, married for 58 years. A Navy veteran 1965-1969. My wife is recovering from a broken hip. DoorDash pays me $2 to $3 on most of my deliveries. Every tip $ helps. Multiple orders & long wait times delay my deliveries. I do try to deliver your food promptly & accurately. Happy holidays! James”
In that moment, I immediately wanted to help him, but knowing my own finances currently are not well enough to do much more. So, I go to our community group just to thank James and tell him how much our hearts go out to him. I did not expect the outpouring we received in the comments there. I called the restaurant he picked up our order from and left my contact information on Friday evening.
James called me back this morning. As I am speaking to him, he is telling me about how he gives as much time as he can to support local senior citizens and provide whatever support he can. I stopped him and said, no James, these people all want to help you. He started choking up on the other end of the phone; he was completely shocked that people wanted to help him. I told him I would do whatever I can and the community will lean in too. He proceeds to tell me that they lost their son, and he is struggling with medical copays.
James is 79, a veteran, doing DoorDash just to pay medical bills. James deserves love and support in these hard times, which I know a lot of us have or are currently experiencing. Absolutely all donations go straight to James.
God put it on my heart early in life to help others and I need to help James. Please help me, help James.
