6/28/25 update:

back in the ER due to extreme high blood sugars. Was reading over 600 and was directed to go in. The sliding scale for his insulin has not been enough so hopefully now this can keep him at a manageable number. They said they can treat him tonight and he can go home with a new scale to use but we have to be very careful to look out for low sugars now. This is medication induced diabetes. Hopefully soon with lowering his steroids, the sugars will lower as well because this is not fun for either of us.

keep praying! This is a loooonnggg road we are headed down with this lung and autoimmune disease.

6/22/25 update: last night he has a very high blood sugar spike!! The super high steroids he’s on is causing him blood sugars to go up so he’s been on insulin. Last night it was almost to 600!! We contacted the provider and were able to control it from home by the grace of God! He’s also experiencing irritations from urinating out a lot of sugars due to the glucose problems.

6/17/2025 update: HE’S HOME!!! with a bunch of meds and close monitoring with frequent follow up appointments and treatments, he is finally able to be home!! Thank you everyone and I’ll keep trying to update along this journey. Keep sharing, donating and praying!! This is forever life changing!

6/15/25 update: He came out of AFib and has regular heart rates controlled with medicine for now. This is great news!! He walked one lap around the hospital floor he’s staying on and recovered pretty quickly as far as heart rate and shortness of breath goes. Keep praying please!! This will still be a very risky and long road. Completely life changing even after discharge. Thank you all so much!!

6/13/25 update: Jamar is out of the ICU looking good and feeling good for discharge sometime soon. Doctors are still doing the work up and evaluation for a lung transplant right now before he can go. Hitting bumps in that road due to Jamar’s heart rate jumping up into tachycardia any time he gets up from out of bed to do anything. This is causing them to reschedule the tests and scans he needs to get out of here. Prayerfully his heart rate can stay controlled with medication and he can complete the evaluation for discharge in a few days or so. We also need to be sure it’s controlled to be home safely. 6/10/25 Jamar’s heart rate was very high last night which is called tachycardia. This morning his blood pressure was very low so they moved him to ICU. His heart is A-Fib. Right now they are saying he could be septic and are testing to rule out infections which is what could be causing these new signs. Showing some kidney damage and is being closely monitored.

6/7/25 Saturday update: Jamar was transferred to USC Hospital in Los Angeles tonight and getting settled in. There has been alot of tears and emotions this last couple of days. Please pray for the Bryant family. Thank you for all of you that have donated.

————Jamar’s Story…

My name is Renae Brunning. My husband Mike and I have a nephew named Jamar Bryant who is 35 years old and has been married to our niece since 2013. They have been married 12 years. Jamar is one of the good guys! He was in the Army from March 2011 to April 2024 and was deployed in 2014 to Afghanistan and Kuwait.

They have 3 children: Jayden, 14; Ezra, 10; and Isaiah, 8.

Sadly, Jamar was just diagnosed with Anti-MDA5 (Melanoma differentiation-associated protein-5) positive dermatomyositis (MDA5+-DM). It is characterized by rapidly progressive interstitial lung disease (ILD) and high mortality.

Jamar started feeling ill about 6 weeks ago. He lost 35 lbs in 3 weeks. He has been going to the VA hospital in Long Beach for several weeks, getting tests done and lung samples. He received a scary call from his doctor saying, "Please get to the hospital immediately so we can admit you." He has been in the hospital for 2 days and will soon be transported to USC (who specializes in this disease) tonight or tomorrow morning.

The plan for him when he gets to USC is getting an early referral to a lung transplant doctor. This doctor will "HIT IT HARD" with Triple Therapy:

Early Combined Immunosuppressive Therapy:

High dose glucocorticoids + CNI +/- CYC.

Jamar and Britney JUST bought a new house 30 days ago (their first home). Unfortunately, they spent all their reserved savings on the down payment that was required to purchase their home.

The sickness that Jamar has means he will be in and out of the hospital for quite a while. Britney will be by his side every step of the way and not able to work. Their children will be watched by family and friends while all of this is happening. To say the least, this has turned their world upside down. The money that will be donated to the Bryant family will go towards their mortgage payments, car payments, and everyday bills.
