Hey Fam and Community. We are calling in support to uplift the costs of getting Jamani back to thriving wellness.

In October 2024 Jamani stewarded the dream and vision to journey with the Sankofa Roots core team in bringing them to various places in Ghana, where they explored earth based ancestral skills, ancestral foods/cooking, and grew as facilitators for future trainings.

During the final days of the trip, Jamani began experiencing severe symptoms and was diagnosed with both malaria and typhoid fever. The strain of malaria that impacted Jamani is called Plasmodium falciparum, this strain in particular is known to pose the greatest threat to the human body. Jamani had a weeklong of intense health struggles in Ghana including multiple hospital visits and feeling in and out of their mind and body. The struggles included reoccurring high fevers, profuse sporadic sweating, repetitive vomiting, dehydration, loss of appetite, mental fog, waking hallucinations, nightmares, and inability to do ordinary activities independently (cook, bathe, walk etc.). In other words, it's been a really big, really humbling experience and Jamani is deeply grateful for making it out the other side.

Jamani was eventually able to fly back to turtle island, though the journey was exhausting and difficult. Jamani is back home in the states and is being cared for by their partner. They've been treated so far with multiple rounds of medications and are stable, however they are still regaining their strength and acknowledge it will take time before feeling themself again.

We are working on creating a care plan as the days unfold and as we meet with various health care providers. For now we foresee weaving in natural remedies to help the long-term recovery of the specific organs that are affected as malaria and typhoid travel through the body (liver, kidneys, spleen and blood). We hope to incorporate lenses from naturopathic medicine to traditional Chinese medicine, including acupuncture and herbs to gentle medicines, like homeopathy and anything else that comes our way that can help Jamani in a full recovery so that their body is well, healed and thriving for years to come. We acknowledge that this healing plan will come with financial and time costs and are asking for support so that finances don't prohibit access to treatment or time for rest.
