HELP JAMAICA RECOVER

My name is Janice Brown-Clarke, my husband’s name is Eddy (Eddy’s Removal). We are US citizens and long-time residents of Nantucket. We are also well known to the Nantucket community.

On behalf of Jamaica and especially the parish of which we are both from (Hanover), we are enlisting your help in this critical time of need.

On Tuesday, October 28, Hurricane Melissa barreled down on Jamaica with such force and fury as never seen before by the Jamaican people, causing significant damages and loss of lives across western Jamaica, including our home parish of Hanover.

Fundraiser update:

We recently got back from Jamaica and on behalf of the people of Hanover and surrounding areas, we want to let you all know how much your donations were appreciated by persons who received care packages which include groceries, school supplies, mattresses, household items, clothes, and building supplies.

Your donations have helped and will continue to help in the rebuilding process of Jamaica and most of all to persons who needed it most. Hurricane Melissa was the worst hurricane Jamaicans has ever witnessed, but the people of Jamaica are determined to pick up the pieces. Many people are still without running water, electricity and food.

We have come to realized that there is a need for ongoing support to help restore some normalcy to those who are affected, the need is much greater than expected. It is very heartbreaking to see how this catastrophic event has disrupted so many people lives.

The need is beyond anything that we could ever imagine, the displacement of children and families has created significant hardship on the Jamaican government and individual communities. Rebuilding will take years, children are out of school, farmers are trying to get their farms and live stocks back up and running, it is heartbreaking to see the devastation.

For this reason we have decided to continue this fundraiser so we can reach our intended target. With your help we can make a difference.
