On October 28th, a Category 5 hurricane struck Jamaica. Lives were lost, homes were destroyed, and families were left in despair. This is a time for our country to unite — with strong faith, compassion, and action.

In the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa, entire communities across Jamaica are without power. Many families have lost everything — food, water, clothing, and even the basic sense of security that home provides. What was once a place full of rhythm, laughter, and life now faces one of its toughest battles.

Who I Am

My name is Amir Vassell, and I’m the founder of Faith and Motion (FNM) — a Toronto-based creative collective and community brand with deep roots in Jamaica.

I was born and raised in Jamaica and left in 2021 at 20 years old. My entire family, friends, and community are still back home, and right now, many of them are directly affected by this disaster. Jamaica made me who I am, and this is my way of giving back when my people need it most.

Where I’m From & Who We’re Helping

I’m originally from Saint James, and that’s where this mission begins. From there, we’ll extend support to surrounding parishes like Westmoreland, Trelawny, Saint Elizabeth.

If we reach the full goal, we will further our efforts in assisting communities that were affected islandwide.

This initiative is deeply personal — these aren’t just names on a map; they’re the people and places that shaped me.

Our Mission: 200+ Care Packages for Families in Need

We’re raising funds to send 200+ care packages to families affected by Hurricane Melissa. Each care package will be filled with essential items to help them start rebuilding their lives, including:

Hygiene Products: Toothpaste, toothbrushes, bar soap, shampoo, deodorant, combs/brushes, disposable razors, pads/tampons, wipes, zip-lock bags, toilet paper, and diapers (for families with infants).

Power & Safety: Power banks, flashlights, batteries, and first aid kits (bandages, gauze, antiseptic wipes, scissors, tweezers).

Food & Water: Non-perishable food items such as tinned food with easy-open lids, crackers, granola/energy bars, and clean drinking water (to be purchased locally in Jamaica).

Miscellaneous: Basic medications (Tylenol, Advil), T-shirts, and other comfort essentials.

How the Funds Will Be Used

Every dollar raised will go directly toward the purchase, shipping, and distribution of these care packages — no middlemen, no administrative fees, and no personal profit.

The amount of money raised will cover the costs of the barrels, shipping the barrels and purchasing the items listed above for the families in need. Every dollar will go towards that.

Supplies will be bought in Canada and shipped to Jamaica.

My family, who live in Jamaica, will lead the on-the-ground distribution of the packages.

I am also reaching out to Members of Parliament and local community leaders to help support logistics and ensure that the aid reaches families in the hardest-hit areas.

Why Faith and Motion (FNM)

At Faith and Motion, our purpose has always been to empower people through creativity, faith, and unity. We’re known for building community through music, content, and connection — but in this moment, our mission means taking real action for our people.

This isn’t just about relief — it’s about restoring hope.
When disaster strikes, community is what gets us through. Together, we can remind Jamaica that even across borders, our motion still carries love, strength, and unity.
