My name is Jamaal Davies last year I was diagnosed with CKD (Chronic Kidney Disease) and since then my kidney function has continued to decline. I now have to get a kidney transplant.
First and foremost, I want to thank everyone for your support and for sharing information about kidney donation thus far. Because of your kindness, about five people have come forward and are currently undergoing testing to see if they are eligible to be my donor.
Although we haven’t found a confirmed match yet, every day we feel one step closer to finding the donor who will help save my life.
As we move closer to transplant, I’ve learned that even with insurance, the financial burden surrounding a kidney transplant is overwhelming. After speaking with my transplant team, financial coordinators, and insurance, I now understand that many critical costs are not covered, and I’m expected to prepare for them before surgery can move forward.
I am humbly asking for assistance with these expenses. These funds will help cover:
• Out-of-pocket medical costs
• Out-of-network fees
• Lost wages during recovery
• Being able to stay with the transplant center and transplant team I trust
• Post-surgery medication that I will need for the rest of my life (anti-rejection medications)
Your support means more than I can ever express. Thank you for standing with me through this journey. Also, even though we have had several volunteers come forward to donate a kidney I would encourage friends and family to continue testing to see if they could be a potential donor.
you can still visit inova.donorscreen.org to see if you're eligible to be a living donor.
Every share, every message, every donation brings me closer. Thank you all.
