My name is James, and my son Jalen is 22 years old. Recently, our lives changed when Jalen was diagnosed with stage 4 sarcoma cancer—a rare form that started in his heart and has now spread to his lungs. The doctors told us that his condition is so rare, he is truly one in a million. For years, Jalen was healthy and active, but because of how uncommon this cancer is, it went undiagnosed until now. Since his diagnosis, his health has started to decline, and we are doing everything we can to stay positive and hopeful for a turnaround.

This journey has been overwhelming, especially as we do not have current insurance. The costs of constant doctor visits, treatments, and making sure Jalen gets the nutrition he needs have made it difficult for us to work as much as we would like. On top of medical bills and daily expenses, Jalen has shared a dream with me—to travel and see the world. Right now, we hope to start by traveling within the United States while we work on getting his passport, so he can experience new places and make memories despite his diagnosis.
