Support Jakob's Journey

Donation protected
Jakob's grandmother's are asking for your help to raise money for he and his mother Desiree's monthly household expenses. Jakob has now been at Hasbro Children's Hospital for just over four weeks. He was admitted on January 28th for respiratory distress brought on by flu and double pneumonia. He actually recovered from this fairly quickly, moving from the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) to a regular room around February 3rd. We were all relieved when preparations began for his return home. Unfortunately, those hopes were quickly dashed when it became apparent Jakob could not hold down the liquid nutrition they tried giving him through his g-tube. As of today, February 27th, he is still suffering from digestive failure and can still only tolerate small amounts in his stomach. Currently he is up to 75 mls/hr, which is about 2.5 ounces. This is given through a continuous feed, with breaks every few hours. Jakob, as always, has an amazing spirit, and is handling all of this like the trooper that he is.

Throughout this time, Desiree has been mostly at his side, and unable to work. In addition to the frequent medical decisions that need to be made, Jakob is a medically complex, non-verbal kiddo, who requires frequent advocacy to ensure his medical, physical, and emotional needs are being met.

This has been an emotionally fraught admission for everyone who loves Jakob. Desiree has the added stress and pressure though of being without a paycheck. Her application through Paid Family and Medical Leave (PFML) remains pending but with no idea of what she can expect to receive, or when. For this reason we are asking family and friends who are in a position to help to please contribute towards our GoFundMe. We really want to give Des one less thing to worry about, so she can continue to focus on getting Jakob home where he belongs.
