Support Jake's Stroke Recovery Journey

Donation protected
Updated 05/01/25 - Jake is still struggling to recover from his Stroke. He was diagnosed the Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) which can occur in stroke patients. This has significantly hindered his recovery. His brain will get overworked and stressed and shut off parts of his body. This has affected both his mental capacity as well as his physical ability. He has had short term memory loss and as recently as this week lost all function of his legs and is in a wheelchair. The doctors are telling Jake that he will not be able to work for many months. This has continued to put a large financial burden on Jake and his family. Please continue to share this page and if you are able to contribute, please do!

Thank you to everyone that has been part of the challenging journey with us. Your thoughts, prayers and messages mean a lot.

Hi Everyone,

My youngest brother Jake (37 yrs old) recently suffered a stroke that left him unable to use the left side of his body. He could not move his left arm or left leg and had no feeling in his torso or stomach. The stroke left him in the ICU for a day and in the hospital for another two days. This was an extremely scary time for his wife and son, as there were more questions than answers about what had caused the stroke and what his prognosis would be.

After they had stabilized him at the hospital, he was transferred to a rehab hospital in Spokane and has been there for the last 13 days working on intense physical therapy and occupational therapy with the goal of regaining function on his left side. At this point, the doctors are speaking very positively about Jake's prognosis, and we are hopeful that over time and with therapy, he will regain all his function on the left side! Jake has been working hard to retrain his brain to use the left side of his body, and we are very proud of his tenacity and perseverance.

Jake will not be able to go back to work for a couple of additional weeks and most likely will not be able to collect a full paycheck for another month or two. His current employer does not offer short-term disability. He will apply for FMLA to protect his job, but in Idaho, there is no pay associated with FMLA.

Our purpose in creating this page is to allow those who know Jake and his family to help with the financial stress that a life-changing event like this brings. All funds contributed will go to Jake and his family to help pay for medical bills, as well as monthly expenses while he is not working.

Thank you for your generosity!
