Hello, my name is Jake Wynn. I am 30 years old with 3 children. I was in an automobile accident on August 16th, 2024, that has left me paralyzed from the chest down, a quadriplegic. I spent 2 weeks at UT Medical Center in ICU on life support after undergoing a cervical spinal fusion due to a fractured C4 and a completely shattered C5, along with multiple other surgeries. I was then transferred to the Shepherd Center in Atlanta, GA, where I underwent several major surgeries that left me bed-confined and unable to fully benefit from therapy for 3 months. I did what I was able to do in PT, OT, and speech therapy, which helped me tremendously to use adaptive equipment, strengthen my lungs and voice, and upper body/limbs.
I came home in November with little to no motor or sensory function. I can move my arms and wrists but have no use of my fingers without adaptive equipment. I am currently seeking stem cell therapy and medical equipment for home in hopes of regaining as much function and independence as I can. I am asking for any assistance that anyone would be able to give.
To my Shepherd Center CRU, thank you for all the knowledge, tools, skills, and emotional support that you provided me with to help me overcome and realize that life doesn't stop here. There really is a bridge between I can and I can't. I love you all.
I sincerely want to thank everyone that has been a part of this life-changing experience. I appreciate every prayer, thought, and word of encouragement to not give up and to continue the fight towards recovery. Thank you, I love you all.
