Support Jake: Recovering from Home Fire

I am one of the many friends of Jake Gulick of Black Rock, CT, a wonderful, generous person.

Unfortunately, on May 8th, 2025, Jake experienced a personal tragedy of a fire in his home. No persons or animals were injured.

The fire damage itself was limited to the first floor, but fire-extinguishing efforts along with significant smoke damage have made his home irreparable. Per Jake, "a lot of fire damage, front door smashed, no windows left. Second floor is smoked out, water damage..." The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.

Unfortunately, Jake does not have any home insurance. He was in the open market for insurance but had a deck/stairs setup that wasn't code compliant, and he was finishing the repairs and about to apply for insurance in a couple of weeks. The fire was just bad timing... Meantime, he's working to recover any valuables he can carry out, begin cleaning, and boarding up windows and the doors. Power is disconnected, water is off, and it's condemned by the city. He is currently living with friends and continuing to work.
