Support Jake Bonney's Road to Recovery
Donation protected
On January 14th, 2025, our truly one of a kind and amazing cousin/nephew, Jake Bonney, was in a serious skiing accident at Sunday River in Maine. Jake broke his neck at vertebrae C6 & C7 and was promptly airlifted to Maine Medical Center in Portland. At the time of accident, Jake had movement in his upper body, but nothing below the waist. Over the past 6 days, Jake has undergone two major surgeries to realign and fuse his spine. He has suffered immense physical pain yet reminds his parents, Heather and David, and beloved girlfriend Angela to "stay strong." The mental and physical strength Jake has shown is truly inspiring.
There have been great glimmers of HOPE as he passed a seven point sensation test in both feet by neurosurgery. After a leg massage from Heather he had tingling further up his legs near his knees. Most recently, he felt a nurse's touch even farther up his leg.
Jake's team of doctors have told him that the rehabilitation process can take up to a year and that a significant amount of that time will be spent inpatient. The extent to which insurance will cover this long rehabilitation period is unclear.
As a contractor Ocean Engineer who goes to sea, disability is unlikely. In addition, his loving caregivers will need to take time off from work to support him during rehabilitation. Depending on Jake's progress, modifications to Jake and Angela's apartment and/or an entirely new living situation may be necessary.
Jake has support from a tremendous amount of family members on both the Bonney and Kroeger sides and endless friends and colleagues reaching out to support.
Right now, our goal is to raise funds that will help Jake recover and move forward in life and relieve some financial stress. There is so much HOPE, but we know the journey ahead is going to be a long one that will require some of the best therapies and facilities around.
Collectively, we can make a difference!
We thank you for your support...let's go Jake!!
