Support Jake, Ashleigh, and Baby Girl's Recovery

Hey everybody, this fundraiser is for a young couple in Clatsop County that have undergone a rough beginning in starting their family. Jake Kelly and Ashleigh Baumgarden were on their way from Astoria, to a prenatal care appointment in Portland, 23 days before Ashleigh was ready to be induced. A driver heading west on highway 30 crossed into their lane and there was a head-on collision. If you live here, I know that we were all on the edge of our seats, seeing the photos and updates on the local scanner feed.

They were both put on life-flights to Portland where their baby girl was born early. To honor their privacy, the details of what is going on for them is not something I will share in full; but Ashleigh and the baby are both in critical condition and Jake has undergone a number of surgeries. There is a long road of recovery ahead of all of them, Jake will be in a rehab facility for an indefinite time, and he does not know at this point what the future looks like for his girls, how long they will be under hospital care or what either of their conditions will be in the long term.

Jake has asked that I not share photos of their baby girl or share her name, as this is something that Mama and Dad are going to want to share when they are able to.

They have an army of people standing behind them, supporting their family through this, but as the sole provider for his family; there is a lot of financial strain in the short term and long term. I'm hoping that alongside all of the prayers and positive vibes; that our community can come together to help ease some of these financial concerns. The funds that we raise will go directly to Jake and will be used to support any of the needs that they have. Be that the right-now needs for their direct support system as they go back and forth to the hospital or the long term needs that will come up as hospital bills come in and he is unable to work while his body heals.

Jake and I worked together for 4 years, developed a close friendship, and he has asked me to do the admin side of updating this page so that he can focus on his healing and taking care of his girls as they move through this trauma. Ashleigh I don't know as well but I know that she has been super excited about her baby and I also know that she makes Jake a pretty happy guy and that's awesome!!
