I don't even know where to begin. My name is Brianna. I am Jakai's mom. If you know my family, then you know that this year has been rough. Two unexpected cross-country moves, a death in the family, other family members dealing with extremely serious medical issues, COVID, brain surgery... The list seems to go on. Because of all this, we have both missed a lot of work.

Recently, our middle son Jakai has experienced a very bad headache that has been happening for 32 days today. Jakai has suffered from headaches for over a year. However this one has been different. He has been in and out of the hospital and doctor's offices the past few weeks. On his most recent hospital trip, he was diagnosed with a cyst in the middle of his brain. At this time they don't think the cyst is the cause of pain. Cancer markers have come back clear, but because it is a complex-looking cyst, he will have to have more imaging and see the neurosurgeon. The doctors ended up referring him to UCSF Pediatric Headache Clinic. They have a team that specializes in different headaches in kids. Because everything we have tried so far has failed, he will be admitted into the hospital in San Francisco today.

As you can imagine, this has put a big financial strain on our family. I hate asking for help, but we will have many more trips to San Francisco as well as medical bills. I am also going to be taking a leave of absence from work to take Jakai to the hospital and stay by his side. Jakai is a sweet, caring, and smart little boy. I just want him to be pain-free. My husband and I will be missing even more work as we try to find solutions for our boy. So, I am asking for donations for our family. Any amount will help.
