Support Jaimes Miller’s Battle Against AL Amyloidosis

Donation protected
In August of this year, Jaimes was diagnosed with a rare and debilitating blood disorder, akin to cancer, known as AL Amyloidosis.
Amyloidosis causes proteins formed in the bone marrow to misfold, and as these damaged proteins travel through the body via the blood, they adhere to vital organs disrupting their normal functions.
In his case, they have attached themselves to his heart and to a lesser extent, his kidneys and GI tract.
This has caused a thickening and hardening of the walls of his heart, causing extreme fatigue, low blood pressure, shortness of breath and a greatly reduced ability to perform daily tasks.
This condition is considered incurable, but it is treatable.
At this time, the damage done to organs is irreversible, but there are drug therapies in testing now that hope to be able to change that prognosis.
Remission is possible after 6 months of Chemotherapy and other drug therapy. Beyond that, maintenance treatment is administered monthly throughout one's lifetime.
Due to the disabling effects of the disorder, and the treatment itself, Jaimes is unable to work, other than remotely, on a part-time basis. He is currently searching for other viable employment. The weekly treatments and other considerable medical costs are staggering, even with insurance. After only a few months, the bills (medical and otherwise) are already approaching the tens of thousands. Disability will likely be the next step, though it is a long and complicated road to get to that point. Until then, as savings and opportunities dwindle, this is his only hope to keep afloat.
Please chip in if you can. If not, I’m sure he’d love to hear from you.
From Jaimes:
Hi everyone,
I just want everyone to know how much I appreciate the help and support that all of my dear friends and wonderful family have offered during this time. This all really came out of nowhere and I don’t know that I could have handled all of it without the love and kindness of those around me. It is truly appreciated. I want you all to know that I will spend the rest of my life trying to repay this kindness in any and every way possible. Thank you all so much.
