My name is Jahquana, and I am a recent UMBC graduate and the first in my family to earn a college degree. Growing up, I faced many challenges—my parents struggled with addiction, and I was raised by my great aunt from the age of four. Despite living in poverty and caring for an elderly, sick guardian, I worked hard to create a stable home and pursue my education. Even after losing my biological mother, I have continued to strive for a better future for myself and my family.

Recently, I found a studio apartment in downtown Baltimore that is perfect for my needs and conveniently located near my new job. I was excited to start this next chapter, but on March 11th, I experienced another devastating loss—several close family members passed away in a tragic fire. This tragedy has left me grieving and unable to return to work right away. With the move-in amount due at the end of the month and such a tight turnaround, I am reaching out for support to help me keep my apartment and begin working when I am ready.
