My name is Jahaida, and my husband David Ramirez are fighting to save our 9-year-old autistic son, Anthony, from homelessness.

Anthony has limited speech, but recently he found the words to ask for something he couldn't express last year: "a lighted Christmas tree for Santa to see where to put presents." Because of your donations, we gave him that moment of joy. Now we're asking for your help to give him something even more important—a safe, stable home.

How We Got Here

In May 2025, a federally-funded homeless services organization placed our family in housing. We thought we'd finally found stability. But the homeowner is a real estate attorney who co-owns that same organization—a conflict of interest that destroyed our lives.

When I reported suspected elder abuse on the property (I'm a mandated reporter), everything changed. The landlord retaliated with eviction. In court, the homeowner was represented by his real estate attorney colleague from the same office. As a family representing ourselves, we stood alone against legal professionals who manipulated the system.

The landlord—who personally placed us there—never appeared in court. His attorney dismissed our proof as "hearsay" and presented false testimony. We lost.

Where We Are Now

Our RV was on a swale without power or water. Anthony was living in conditions no child should endure. We've successfully moved to a new location thanks to your support, but we're still fighting to clear the wrongful eviction from our record and finding permanent housing.

What We Need

✓ Legal representation for our appeal (Legal Aid cannot help with detainer cases)

✓ First month's rent and security deposit for permanent housing

✓ Generator or solar panels (both our systems failed)

The unlawful detainer on our record labels us "squatters" even though we have proof we were legally placed. Without clearing this, no landlord will rent to us. If you know an attorney who can help with our appeal, please share our story.

Why This Matters

The same organization that was supposed to help homeless families is now the reason my son is homeless. They receive public funding to serve people like us, yet they used legal expertise to destroy us when we reported wrongdoing.

Anthony deserves better. Every child does.
