Support Jade and Alex’s Recovery After Hurricane Helene

Hello, my name is Kaylee Metcalf. I live in the town of Asheville, North Carolina. I was born and raised here and absolutely adore this town. It truly made me who I am today with all its uniqueness and its amazing mountains. I know I am not alone in this at all. We are all mourning our town and losses.

I'm asking for help for my best friend, Jade Wilson and her boyfriend Alex Hawkins. All of their belongings were destroyed due to Hurricane Helene. All of Jade and Alex’s belongings were family heirlooms, so we know nothing will ever replace the memories they shared with their pieces. Jade and Alex have worked their asses off since I met them back in 2020 to finally get her own car. She finally had paid it off Alex supporting her every step of the way, and the storm ruined the whole car. This is their life. Nobody knew this storm would do the damage it did, but we move forward and come together as a community the best we can. I wish I could do anything to just replace all her things out of my pocket because I would do it in a heartbeat. Jade is a student at AB-Tech as a vet tech. She has a wonderful dog named Kuzco and a beautiful cat named Nala they lost the essential needs for their pets. Alex is a chef and is very passionate about cooking and had a whole set up of kitchen equipment and appliances, completely lost all of it in the storm. Alex is a hard worker and supports Jade through anything as well as she does him. This is a complete loss for the both of them.

Very sentimental letters were the only things she could save. I am still in disbelief that this could EVER happen in the mountains and just at a loss for words. Jade means the absolute world to me, and I am just so thankful she is okay along with her fur babies. Jade and Alex have handled the situation as we all have, not really knowing the next step, and I want to just help them in any way that I can to give them guidance in that step. Nobody should have to be going through a loss of their valuable belongings from family members that have passed and very special pieces. Knowing how special Jade’s belongings were, given to her by her late grandmother, just absolutely eats me inside because Jade’s grandmother was her rock. So just knowing that she no longer has those pieces that hold her grandmother’s memory is just so heart-wrenching.

Not asking for much, just asking for a little help and guidance in getting them back on their feet. This is what jade would use the funds for “I’d spend it on replacing my furniture, paying for my new car, and replacing cooking things and clothes.” Alex’s response for what the funds would be used for “The main use of the money would be to replace the car. Anything after that would just help us restart.” If anyone deserves it, They do. They are such amazing people and they hold such a golden soul.
