Help Jada Amor Garnett Heal and Rebuild After Aging Out of Foster Care
Hi, my name is Jada Amor Garnett. I am 18 years old, and I am a survivor of the Person County foster care system.
I am creating this GoFundMe not just for myself, but to shine light on what happens to children whose voices are ignored while in state custody—and to begin rebuilding a life that was repeatedly torn apart by the very system meant to protect me.
I was taken into Person County custody at 5 years old and remained there until I aged out at 18 on August 5, 2025. I did not age out into safety or stability. I aged out in a mental hospital because there was nowhere else for me to go. On my 18th birthday, I was discharged at 12:00 a.m. with nothing—no housing, no plan, no support. Two weeks later, my foster care social worker met with me, gave me $100, and told me to “figure it out.”
From the beginning, I learned that no one was going to protect us.
While in custody, I endured physical abuse, medical abuse, neglect, and extreme violence. I was restrained, drugged, hit, choked, dragged by my hair, and ignored when I begged for help. My sister, who has Down syndrome, was also brutally abused, and even when I reported it, no one listened. When I was finally removed from that home, my sister was left behind—and I lost the only protection she had.
By age 13, I was placed in a home with no adult supervision and no food. I told my social worker what was happening and was told there was “nowhere else” for me to go. I turned to the streets to survive. While in foster care, I was kidnapped, later sex trafficked, and repeatedly reported missing—only to be returned to the same unsafe environments.
I spent nights in hospitals or locked inside DSS offices, sitting in small rooms for hours or days with no interaction, no care, and sometimes no food. I was antagonized instead of protected.
This trauma did not happen despite the system—it happened within it.
Now, as an 18-year-old who aged out with limited family support, I am asking for help to survive and heal.
