Our puppy Jacques, only 16 weeks old, was being pet sat by my mother while out of town for three days. A day before we got home, my mother has been in the bathroom when he had gotten onto the couch, jumped off, and split his Tibia and Fibula, causing him immense pain. When taken to the vet, we were given two options, to splint or get surgery. The vet had warned us that the splint was likely not reliable with how severe the fracture was and how it could move out of place and heal improperly, likely causing further pain and struggle for Jacques in the future. The option for surgery would be over $2,000 out of pocket. Even with vet insurance, I would still have to pay the full cost out of my own pocket. With our limited options, we went with the splint which we could afford. While the vet worked on his leg, we heard 15 minutes of screaming and when we finally came back, he let us know he wasn’t able to get it fully straight due to how much pain he was in and he highly encouraged we get the surgery done due to his young age and the severity of needing a pin in the bone.

We want our dog to have the best life he possibly can. He’s always been known to run everywhere and chase people around in fun. He’s a light to everyone he comes in contact with and while the splint is a temporary solution, we hope to make enough to afford the surgery so that he can have the best quality of life.
