Jacob Chambers is a bright and determined 23-year-old who had just started building his life in Tennessee after moving from Arizona. He was excited about his new job, his first apartment, and the chance to reconnect with our family. Everything changed in an instant when Jacob suffered a traumatic brain injury after a fall at the gym. The accident fractured the back of his skull, and while he was in the ICU, he experienced a stroke caused by a blood clot from the injury. The result left Jacob in a vegetative state for some time, but since bringing him home, we’ve seen hopeful signs of improvement. He still faces a long and uncertain road to recovery, with doctors estimating at least a year or more of rehabilitation ahead.

Caring for Jacob at home has been both a privilege and a challenge. His mother and I have become his full-time caregivers, managing everything from daily wound care and bed sore prevention to feeding tube management and basic medical needs. We are currently responsible for purchasing all of his home care supplies, including diapers, catheters, gloves, masks, hand sanitizer, and first aid items. We hope to upgrade his feeding tube pump to make his nutrition and hydration easier and more comfortable. Our current medical bed and wheelchair are rentals and very basic, so we’re hoping to provide Jacob with equipment that will improve his comfort and mobility. Eventually, we’d like to adapt our vehicle for wheelchair access so we can safely transport him to his many appointments without relying on outside help.

This journey has completely changed our family’s life. We spent months driving hours each day to be with Jacob in the hospital, and now, with insurance providing little support for in-home care, we are balancing full-time jobs with round-the-clock caregiving. Despite the challenges, we are committed to giving Jacob the best possible chance at recovery. Any support will go directly toward his medical supplies, equipment, and transportation needs, helping us provide the care and comfort he deserves as he fights his way back to health.
