After a long battle with Leukemia, our sweet Jacob has gained his wings and passed peacefully to Heaven on February 3, 2024. We appreciate your help with paying for funeral expenses during this time of immense grief.
Hello everyone, I am setting this up for my baby cousin Jacob and his mom Lisa please take a minute to read Jacob's story.
Jacob was diagnosed with leukemia last year, as of February 25th it had been 270 days since his diagnosis. Throughout this time Jacob has managed to keep a smile on his face. February 25th seemed to be a good day. Jacob and his family were told they can start doing “normal” things again (with some precautions of course)
However this small celebration was short lived. Two days ago doctors confirmed Jacob's cancer is back.
This will not be an easy time for Jacob or his family. Lisa is a single mother of three boys. She is strong, brave and stubborn as hell but now she needs our help so she can focus on getting her baby healthy.
Any donations are truly appreciated and please share Jacobs story. Thank you!
Below is the latest update on Jacob:
Jacob started running a fever last Sunday and presented with hip/leg pain. Within a few days his blood work showed signs of relapse and he was admitted immediately for a bone marrow biopsy. We don't have the results biopsy but based on other blood tests, the doctors have confirmed that Jacob's cancer is back.
The relapse is suspected to be isolated to his bone marrow, but we are still waiting test results from a recent lumbar puncture to determine if he has also relapsed in his central nervous system.
He started re-induction on Thursday, which is a 28-day phase to get him back into remission.
He will have another bone marrow biopsy on March 30th that will tell us if it was successful.
He will then start immunotherapy called Blina for 1 to 2 months. Then Jacob will need a bone marrow transplant.
He will be in the hospital for the first 30 days as the chemo will cause his counts to drop dramatically. There is a potential for fungal infection, liver and heart damage among many other side effects and complications. The safest place for him is in the hospital.
The fevers and pain have subsided, but he is extremely tired and not wanting to eat and of course is being monitored closely.
There are a lot of unanswered questions and his primary oncologist is just as shocked as we are. It is very rare for children to relapse during treatment and now we are faced with making decisions that are extremely aggressive but will give him the best chance of a cure.
We are meeting with additional specialists on Monday to get a better understanding of the treatment plan. I can't possibly explain all the emotions we have right now, but can honestly say that this news is more devastating that his original cancer diagnosis.
This will be the toughest fight of his life. ❤️ Thank you all for your support.
