Hello!
My name is Jackson, and I am a student attending UMass Boston. I’ve had the amazing opportunity to study abroad in Tokyo, Japan, at Sophia University!
As an Asian Studies major and also in the honors college, this opportunity is invaluable for my personal and professional development. My focus is on intensive Japanese study, and my hope is to achieve a high proficiency in the language. The combination of 16 hours per week of classroom study, in addition to the immersive environment I will be living in, will make this endeavor very real and feasible.
Having met several exchange students and even a professor from the university over this past academic year, I already have several connections and can’t wait to reconnect with them. Being on the dean’s list both semesters I’ve attended at UMB, as well as being recognized at the Paul English AI Institute for my work on two teams at last year’s hackathon, I have massive ambition to succeed and know I won’t let you or myself down!
I’m asking for support to help fund my airfare, as well as getting set up with accommodations in Japan. I’m choosing to live on my own rather than a home stay, so I will need to find a place to live within my first weeks arriving in the country. Anything helps!
Thank you to all who choose to help me with my journey! This opportunity is my dream, and I never imagined I’d be able to do this. No matter what, I know this will be the greatest experience of my life.
