Support the RESCH/CLOSTER Family Fight Jack’s Battle with High Risk Leukemia

My name is Angela Meakin (Sabrina’s sister) and I am starting this Go Fund Me to support the Resch family as they navigate an unfathomable medical situation which has affected the entire family. Cam and Sabrina Resch have three amazing little kids, Jack, Kenzie and Lexi. On May 2, 2022 Sabrina and Cam received the devastating news that their 5 year old son Jack was diagnosed with leukemia (Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia). Cam and Sabrina are now limited to one income and at times neither are able to work due to the unpredictable nature of Jack’s illness. Doctors have explained that Jack is early in his grueling battle with cancer and the family can expect the treatment to last for years.

No family should have to go through the experience of dealing with pediatric cancer. Jack’s path to recovery is complicated and unclear. There are so many unknowns they face but the one thing we do know is that we have an amazing group of family, friends and acquaintances who want to help, and have been offering to help by any means possible. Your generous donations will allow the family to focus on caring for Jack and themselves as he fights and beats this cancer. Help support the Resch/Closter family as they navigate an enormously challenging medical situation that impacts their entire family.

Prior to the diagnosis Jack was your average, fun loving 5 year old boy. He enjoyed karate, swimming, playing with his siblings and attending his first year of elementary school. You would often find Jack dressed as a superhero looking to take on any villains. In May 2022 Jack began the biggest battle of his life against Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. A month of chemotherapy, lumbar punctures, bone marrow biopsies, steroids and blood and platelet transfusions were performed to help his body fight off the cancer that had invaded his blood and bone marrow. Sabrina and Cam had to put their lives on hold to remain at Jack’s bedside to support and keep him comforted during this scary and stressful time while simultaneously trying to spend time with their girls who are being watched by my incredible parents.

Cam briefly returned to work when Jack was able to go home and could continue his intensive treatments as an outpatient. This meant that Sabrina was now looking after the family at home as well as getting Jack to Children’s Hospital multiple times a week. Cam’s job is intense and involves him being away for a week at a time. While this was stressful for the whole family, they were determined to attempt to adjust to their new normal as Jack continued through rigorous treatments.

On June 10, 2022 Jack developed a fever and upon assessment back at the hospital, the family learned that Jack unfortunately did not respond to the first round of treatment. Less than 1% of children with Jack’s type of leukemia fail to go into remission after their initial treatment plan.

Jack now enters a high risk category which needs additional months of intensive chemotherapy and with that comes the possibility of a bone marrow transplant. Cam, Sabrina, and their daughters have been tested to assess their potential for being a bone marrow match. Jack’s situation is extremely rare, unpredictable and can change by the minute making planning work very difficult. Cam was at work when the family received the news that Jack did not respond to treatment and was critically ill. He had to quickly arrange to leave his job mid week so he could rush back to join Sabrina and Jack at the hospital to support them as they all come to terms with the heart breaking diagnosis and a new, intense treatment plan.

All the money raised will go directly to the Resch family to support them through this extremely difficult time in their lives. Sabrina, while unable to work at this time, has been a Registered Nurse for over 11 years and has devoted her professional life to taking care, comforting and helping others recover from illness. Let’s come together and show her and her family the same love and support she’s given others throughout her life.
