On the night of July 4th 2024, Jack was doing what he loved more than anything else in the world. He was being a dad. After having dinner with his brother, John, and meeting his new grandniece, Jack took his boys to Riverton to watch the fireworks. Around 10:30 PM, as they were leaving Jordan Rotary River Park to go home, their car was hit by a speeding driver. Jack was killed and all three boys taken to the hospital in serious and critical conditions.
Jack’s three boys (ages 12, 9 and almost 6) suffered severe injuries but are expected to make a full recovery, however, they have a long and extremely difficult road ahead of them. Many surgeries and ongoing physical and psychological care for their foreseeable future. Two of the boys must spend up to six months in a wheelchair while they recover from bone breaks and spinal injury. Their mother will need to make changes to the home to accommodate wheelchairs and other equipment. Also, she has an almost two-hour commute from Logan Utah to Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City. The boys have been given the news of their dad’s passing. They have been incredibly strong and resilient through all this but still devastated. The youngest telling his mother after waking up from a 24 hour medically induced coma, “I don’t want to forget my dad”.
Jack was an extraordinarily devoted Dad above all else, putting his children’s needs and happiness above everything. The boys are tech and gaming junkies like their father, but Jack took them out to “touch the grass” as often as possible with day trips and outings. Showing them the world and making memories that will last a lifetime. Jack was always there, at family events and always had the boys with him; BBQ’s, birthdays, holidays, football games, no matter how small the event, he was there with the boys. Jack valued and added unmeasurable value to his family, friends and colleagues’ lives; He was the family man’s man, a mastermind in his professional career, a leader by example and a friend to anyone who needed one. Jack was a survivor of severe depression and wore the tattoo “L;ve” as a promise to his children, family, and friends that he will never give up again. Jack was deeply empathetic to suffering, even more so after overcoming his depression and truly believed that the smallest acts of kindness often have the biggest impact. When asked at work, “What drives you?” Jacks’ humble response was “Knowing that my work mattered, and I was able to help someone who was struggling”. We will honor Jacks life by continuing to live, love and help someone who is struggling.
The family finds great comfort in the stories and memories of Jack. These memories are a treasure to pass on to his children.
