Hello there, my name is Monroe. I'm a part-time artist who is here to help get my close friend Jackie out of their state.
To make a long story short, Jackie has spent the better part of two decades dealing with an incredibly toxic family; one that neglects basic necessities like food and electricity bills, one that starts screaming arguments almost nightly...and on top of that, they're a black trans person in the deep South.
Originally, we had planned to save up our respective money to fund a one-way plane ticket to the Southwest, where I live, but as of today, Jackie's home has lost power. The electricity bill had been neglected for months, accumulating $4000 in debts, and it is uncertain whether the family will lose the house again. Jackie has been able to find temporary housing with their grandparents, as well as a job, but the new house is in a horrible state of clutter and infestation.
You can imagine the strain this can have on someone's mental health, especially with a heavily religious, queerphobic family that tries to make someone feel worthless at every turn. While I've been doing my best to help Jackie through rougher nights, but a long-distance relationship can only help so much.
I know it is a shot in the dark, but if you can donate anything to this fundraiser, we can speed up the moving process as fast as we can. The future is uncertain, but I'm hoping we can get Jackie to a safer place to live.
