My name is Jackie, and I never imagined I would be in a position to write something like this. I was recently diagnosed with breast cancer and am now preparing to begin chemotherapy in the coming weeks. Alongside that, I have an upcoming second surgery to remove additional cancerous lymph nodes, which will require time away from work and recovery.
I am a full-time therapist working in a substance abuse treatment center, where I support clients navigating both mental health and addiction. This work is deeply meaningful to me. My clients trust me with their stories, their struggles, and their healing, and it is not something I can simply step away from without impact. At the same time, I am committed to continuing to show up for them as much as I am able during treatment. In addition to working full time, I am also a full-time PhD student in psychology. Education has always been important to me, and I have continued to push forward toward this goal while balancing work, family, and now my health. I am also a single mother raising two teenagers, and a proud grandmother of three. My family is my world, and they depend on me in every way. I do not receive outside assistance for food or medical care. While I do have insurance through my job, the reality is that cancer treatment comes with many additional costs—both expected and unexpected. As I move into chemotherapy and face additional surgery, I will need to take time off work, which will directly impact my ability to keep up with everyday expenses.
Donations will help cover medical bills, groceries, gas and transportation, and utilities, providing financial stability during treatment and recovery. If you feel led to support, this fundraiser will help provide some financial stability during treatment so I can focus on healing, continue supporting my children, and return to the work and life I care so deeply about. If you are unable to donate, sharing this page means just as much. Thank you for taking the time to read my story and for any support you can give—whether financial, emotional, or simply keeping me in your thoughts.
