Hello friends

My name is Jackie, I’m 26 years old & on September 23, 2025, I was admitted into the ER after having a month of symptoms that included faintness, dizziness, low blood pressure, exhaustion, on the verge of passing out, shortness of breath, and more.

After being admitted, doctors told me my white blood cell count was sky high & my test all pointed to having Leukemia (blood cancer). Regular white blood cell count is 4-10, mine has been between 100-120.

Doctor performed a bone marrow biopsy 2 days later (which hurt like a bitch 0/10) and confirmed I have CML Leukemia (slow growing cancer) instead of acute leukemia (fast growing cancer).

My hematologist told me my blood test also showed I have Chronic Myeloid Leukemia. CML is caused by a genetic mutation in the bone marrow cells. Chromosome 9 & 22 break off and swap places, this creates a new chromosome, called chromosome Philadelphia. This swap fuses two genes together BCR & ABL. This new gene now produces a protein called Tyrosine Kinase, which then produces too many white blood cells into my blood stream.

It is not known why this happens, it’s just pure bad luck and genetic makeup. Luckily, if all goes according to plan, I won’t have to do chemotherapy & can take targeted drugs (Tyrosine Kinase Inhibitors).

I will probably have this disease for the rest of my life, but thanks to modern medicine, it can be managed.

Due to this, I am not able to work until I start my treatment. I have medical insurance, but I have stayed in the hospital for almost 2 weeks now, I know I have an expensive medical bill coming.

I still don’t know how the drugs are going to affect me and if I can go back to bartending. Therefore I am asking help from my community to help support me these next couple months with bills, food, and medical expenses while I can’t work. I am hoping my drugs make me feel better as soon as possible so I can get back to work & life.
