To know Jacki Becker is to be supported by her. Now is the time to turn that care around. Jacki was recently diagnosed with Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer and immediately began chemotherapy.
For all the times Jacki rallied for somebody else, today is when we need to rally for her. She can’t work, might need to travel out of state for treatments, needs supplies to keep her as comfortable as possible through aggressive medical treatments, good food, animal care, to subsidize her partner’s missed work while he cares for her, and out-of-pocket medical expenses.
We know you have many roles in your own lives, but it’s the moment that we have a new role — caretaker to the ultimate caretaker herself. It’s the moment we’ve all been waiting for: when WE get to be there for HER.
Whether it’s pulling you onto the side stage for a better view, a jar of homemade pickles, a kickball nudge in the right direction, the biggest hug accompanied with the biggest smile (you know the one), a wave from her bicycle, or a meal when you needed it — Jacki is center stage for bringing us together, in love and music.
Don’t know Jacki personally, but would like to help? Here’s a little bit more about her: Jacki Becker was a woman leader in the music industry when that was extremely rare. But she didn’t just stand her ground there; she opened door after door for other people. A hub for equity, she has served on the Juneteenth Board, East Lawrence Neighborhood Association, Just Food Board and chair, Parks and Rec Board board and chair for six years as well, Lawrence Bicycle Advisory Board, and Kaw Valley Kickball League Board member and commissioner (as well as a 22-year player). Generations of music-lovers in Lawrence, Kansas, and nationwide know Jacki, trust her, and love her. She’s unafraid of change and is a firm believer in basic human rights as well as joy for everyone — the bread and the roses (or kickball).
She needs your help now. Rally in the way she’d rally for you, which is up to eleven.
