Hi, I am starting this GoFundMe to help Lisa Naert and NJ Royer defray medical expenses for Jack Picard.
As most of you know, Jackson (Jack) and Ogden Picards were roaming loose in Ohio after being abandoned by the owner’s son. The owner passed away. Instead of contacting the breeders to return the boys, they were released to fend for themselves. Jack was bred by Lisa and Ogden was an Acme Picard
Jack was loose and roaming in Ohio for close to a month. He was finally caught by a non-profit Lost Pet Recovery group and based on the chip and documentation, Jack was returned to Lisa. Pet Recovery did not charge for the recovery.
In typical Picard fashion, Jack was a problem solver and figured out using the RR tracks was safer than the roads and likely prevented him from being hit by a vehicle.
Jack was evaluated by the rescue vet/trapper before heading to Lisa’s home. Jack was emaciated but well-hydrated. He had been traveling 10+ miles per day, so hopefully, he just has soft tissue injuries. He will require a lot of tests to check his health plus physical therapy and laser to help strengthen all of his muscles.
Jack saw a local vet this week to determine the extent of injuries and overall health. He has not had good vet care for quite some time. He is at high risk for Lyme disease due to many engorged ticks. They are also checking for heartworm and other medical issues. He was also limping on his left rear leg and has a wound on his right front leg.
Jack is currently “agoraphobic” (afraid to go outside) and definitely suffering from doggie “PTSD” from everything that happened to him.
Ogden was rescued earlier but unfortunately was euthanized. I am sure Jack misses his best friend as well.
Thank you in advance for your support for Jack and Lisa. It is amazing that he survived the ordeal but he has a long recovery road ahead of him.
