On August 24, the Nehring family received the kind of phone call no parent ever wants to get. Their son, Jack Nehring, a freshman at Amityville Memorial High School, was struck by a car near Merrick Road and Route 110. Jack suffered serious injuries, including an orbital fracture, and is now facing a long and difficult recovery. In the days and weeks ahead, Jack will likely need surgery, ongoing medical care, follow-up appointments, and time away from school, activities, and the daily routines that mean so much to him. This fundraiser has been created to help ease some of the financial burden on the Nehring family so they can focus their energy on what matters most: helping Jack heal and recover.
For anyone who knows Jack, it is easy to understand how much he means to the Amityville community. He is an outstanding student, a talented musician and performer, and someone who gives so much of himself to others. Jack has taken part in Drama Club productions at both the middle school and high school levels, plays in a local band, works locally, and volunteers in the community he loves. He is also a captain in the Junior Fire Dept and a member of Tri-M and the National Junior Honor Society. If you know the Nehring family, you also know how much they give back to Amityville. Jack’s dad serves on the Amityville Board of Education, and his mom serves as President of the Amityville 6–12 PTSA and as an administrator of a local moms group. Both of Jack’s parents consistently volunteer their time, support local families, and work to make the community a better place. Now it is our turn to show up for them.
Donations will help with the many expenses that come with a crisis like this, including medical bills, surgery and follow-up care, meals, lost wages as Jack’s parents spend time by his side, transportation to appointments, and other recovery-related needs in the weeks and months ahead. The Nehring family has given so much of their time, energy, and heart to their schools and community, and this is an opportunity to surround them with the same love and support they have shown others. Please consider donating if you are able. If you cannot donate, sharing this page with friends, family, and the community is another meaningful way to support Jack and the Nehring family.
