I am sharing our story with a humble and hopeful heart. Recently, our lives changed in a moment we never expected. My sons, Jack (12) and Damien (6), were crossing the school crosswalk — something we have done countless times — when a driver disregarded the stop sign and struck them.
We are so grateful that both of my boys are still with us. Jack was treated and released the same day, and while he is still healing from the shock and soreness, he is recovering well. My youngest, Damien, was more seriously affected. He had to stay overnight in the hospital for monitoring and care. When he came home, he needed a wheelchair and a walker to help him move. He has been working so hard, and we are thankful to see him improving. He is now able to walk again, but it is still difficult, slow, and tiring for him.
Damien will need ongoing physical therapy and speech therapy in the weeks ahead as he continues to heal. Watching him try so bravely to do things that once came naturally — like walking across a room or forming words clearly — has been emotional and overwhelming at times. His determination is incredible, and I am so proud of both him and Jack for their strength through all of this.
Because of the many therapy appointments, follow-up visits, and being home to support my boys through recovery, I have had to miss a lot of work. My children are always my first priority, but the financial strain has begun to grow heavier — gas to appointments, everyday expenses, and bills are becoming difficult to manage.
And with the holidays approaching, the reality of everything feels especially heavy. This time of year is supposed to be filled with joy, comfort, and family traditions. I simply want my boys to feel safe, supported, and loved as they heal. I want to keep their holiday season warm, gentle, and reassuring, even in the midst of all this change.
I am asking for help — kindly, and from the heart. Whether it is a donation or simply sharing this fundraiser, your support truly matters. It will help us stay afloat while Damien continues therapy and allow me to remain by my boys’ side as they recover.
Thank you for taking the time to read our story. Thank you for keeping Jack and Damien in your thoughts. Your kindness means more than I can express.
With sincere gratitude,
Kaylee Stevens
