Support Jace's Recovery
Donation protected
On behalf of My sister Latasha Henry and my brother in law Richard Crain. On Saturday afternoon, September 22nd – our 9 year old son Jace Crain was involved in an ATV accident after he and his friend were struck by another vehicle. Jace was initially rushed to Prince Albert Hospital then immediately to Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon after realizing the extent of his injuries. Jace had extensive damage to his lower left leg which included multiple fractures, breaks, and deep lacerations.
We all prayed and hoped that the doctors would be able to save his leg and over the course of the next 5 days we observed this strong little boy struggle with the possibility that if the repairs would not hold up, amputation would be an inevitable course of action. His strength, resilience, and kindness through this difficult time is a testament to his character and set an example for all of our family.
On Thursday, Sept 27th – attempts to save the leg had failed and we were faced with the crushing realization that he might require amputation. After his third surgery we hoped and prayed that the doctors had done enough but by Friday evening we realized his foot was not healing properly and amputation was the only option left. On Sunday Sept 30th, Jace underwent his 4th surgery and his leg was amputated below his knee. He has been putting up the good fight since.
We are utterly devastated and our lives have all been put on hold to support our child. While we are grateful his injuries were limited to his leg, the path to recovery will be a long and painful uphill battle. His life is forever changed. As parents, we never expected this to happen–it seemed so abstract. But the outpouring of support from family and friends including the love across social media has been uplifting and sincerely appreciated. But such circumstances take a financial toll that is very difficult to bear. His brother Eathan is an incredible support and pillar of strength for Jace – and he has been graciously taking time off his studies to support us.
We are therefore seeking help through GoFundMe to start a campaign to raise funds to support the costs associated with supporting Jace through this period. This includes lost wages, food, travel, airplane tickets, daily parking, and specialized supports Jace requires. This will represent significant costs that we are simply ill-equipped to bear. By supporting our cause, you will be helping Jace and his parents on his path to recovery.
All proceeds will go towards costs associated with Jace’s recovery and ongoing specialized supports (i.e. prosthetics, rehabilitation, etc.) to get him back to the quality of life and wellbeing he needs to grow and thrive.
We appreciate and are profoundly grateful any help you may provide to us during this difficult time.
