Izyk suffered a stroke on August 26, 2026. He was hospitalized for four days and is now facing life-altering speech and mobility issues. His right side is impaired, especially his hand and foot; he has trouble speaking clearly, and he cannot drive at this point. Because he lives alone, these sudden changes have made daily life much harder while he begins rehabilitation.

Izyk works as a security officer at a hotel here in San Antonio, where he moved in 2022 to live near his son. He adores his three cats, Beans, Cody, and Tora. But beyond a few friendly coworker relationships, he doesn't have a built-in support system here. His family is back in California, and recovery from something like this usually depends heavily on people nearby who can drive you to appointments, check in on you, and help you re-adapt to daily life. Izyk doesn't have that safety net, so a lot of what family or friends would normally handle now has to be covered by paid help.

Right now, he is still working through follow-up appointments and specialist referrals to determine his ongoing treatment with his neurosurgeon, speech therapist, and physical therapist. Because he is uninsured and his Medicaid application is still pending, all of this is currently out of pocket. For this first phase, donations will help cover his immediate, known expenses over the next two to three months, including basic living costs, transportation to appointments, medical and therapy costs, and home safety and mobility equipment. These costs continue whether or not he can work.
