On Monday, May 27th, Izaiah Thomas Lemmons was born. He came two months early in an emergency C-section. Upon birth, he had to be resuscitated and went without oxygen for an unknown amount of time. During the first few days, he was hooked up to an EEG monitor that tracked seizures he was having. They did this until the doctors were able to find the right medications that finally stopped the seizures.
Because of the seizures he experienced, and the lack of oxygen for an unknown time, there is a chance Izaiah has some brain damage that will potentially affect his motor skills or cause mobility issues. He was given an MRI and it shows potential brain damage to the white matter which puts him at high risk for CP. So far, Zay has exceeded the staff’s expectations of how he would be doing considering his situation. This is a miracle, and a reason to thank God! What this means moving forward is that every developmental marker Zay meets will be a time for us to continue to ask God for the miracle of full and complete healing on this side of heaven.
The current milestone he needs to meet is how to regulate his own temperature and how to eat without a feeding tube. There are several other benchmarks he will also need to make before he is released to go home. So for now, he will remain in the NICU until closer to his due date (end of July).
It broke our hearts to not all walk out of the hospital together but we know that Zay is in the right place and getting the care he needs so he can thrive! As his parents, we will be able to come and visit him any time we want during his stay in the NICU.
Much of Izaiah's current medical expenses are covered. Any funds donated will go toward future unforeseen medical expenses, as he will continue to have assessments over the next several years to determine if and how his brain development was impacted by his birth and the subsequent complications. We want our Izaiah to thrive and are so grateful for any support you choose to contribute toward this shared goal. We may not see the full impact of his birth for another 3-5 years. Our plan is to set these funds aside in case he needs them as things develop. If he does not need them, we will work toward donating them to a child or children who do need support.
Continue to pray for full and complete healing for Zay! We are stronger because you stand with us and pray with us.Thank You!
