For those of you who don't know what's been happening lately, my granddaughter Ivy L. Pickerill was diagnosed with MPS IV (Morquio Syndrome) during the first week of 2025. The family has had to travel for the first six months to Oklahoma City weekly for infusions. Thankfully, they were able to transfer back to St. Francis hospital at the end of June to help reduce the cost for travel and living expenses.
On March 24th, 2026, Ivy will have a surgery to help make space around her spinal cord, which is being pinched at the base of her skull, and stabilize the neck and spinal plates with pins and screws. She will have to spend three to four months recovering and an additional one to two months in physical therapy. Most of that time will be spent in a neck brace, so at-home care will be essential. Her mom, Kayleigh, will be taking on most of her home care and will have to take off work for an unknown amount of time to be there for whatever Ivy needs.
Anything at this time will help with the cost of travel to and from appointments, essentials for her home care, and bills that will be coming in during her healing journey and beyond. This is all happening so fast, and nothing can prepare you for something like this with someone you love so dearly. We appreciate any support. Thank you.
