After serving more than 18 years in prison for a crime he did not commit, Ivery Dorsey walked free on February 5, 2025. However, Ivery’s freedom is conditional. He has been released on parole, but the fight for exoneration, to clear his name, continues. While Ivery is no longer in a prison cell, parole presents unique challenges.
Parole is not prison, but it is confining—Ivery wears an ankle monitor 24/7, and he has to seek approval two weeks in advance of leaving the house. He is also responsible for paying monthly parole fees.
Recently, a friend of Ivery’s drove him to the emergency room, which is when he found out for the first time that he is diabetic. While a “normal” blood sugar level is below 100, Ivery’s blood sugar spiked to 735, and doctors admitted him to the ICU for a few days. Although Ivery is now on insulin, he is without health insurance because Texas is one of 10 states that did not expand Medicaid—Ivery is, therefore, personally liable for all of his healthcare costs.
Ivery wants to clear his name through exoneration. He and his team hired an attorney to represent Ivery, but quality legal services are expensive. This GoFundMe will directly support Ivery by making it a little easier to afford monthly living expenses, medications, and legal fees. Ivery has fought for himself for over 18 years: can you join him in his fight?
